FPT eID achieves new milestone in anti-spoofing certification under U.S. evaluation standards

FPT eID, the digital identity authentication solution developed by FPT, has successfully passed the Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) Level 2 assessment under the international standard ISO/IEC 30107-3, evaluated by iBeta. This achievement affirms its capability to detect and prevent sophisticated biometric face spoofing attempts.

With this certification, FPT becomes one of the few entities in Vietnam to simultaneously hold PAD certifications from both iBeta and BixeLab at multiple levels, meeting international benchmarks and ensuring readiness against today’s most advanced fraud scenarios.

ISO/IEC 30107-3 is a globally recognized standard designed to assess the ability of biometric systems to detect and prevent face spoofing. In particular, PAD Level 2 requires a rigorous 6–8 week testing process, including exposure to at least five sophisticated attack methods such as silicone masks, 2D and 3D masks, and deepfake videos, with an intrusion tolerance of less than 1%. This makes PAD certification one of the most challenging benchmarks for biometric recognition solutions due to its meticulous procedures, technical rigor, and high compliance requirements.

Test results showed that FPT eID significantly outperformed baseline requirements, achieving outstanding accuracy with an exceptionally low error rate of just 0.02% in detecting and blocking fraud attempts, while maintaining reliable recognition of legitimate users.

The PAD Level 2 certification earned by FPT eID is particularly significant as it was conducted by iBeta, a laboratory accredited by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Known for its stringent requirements, iBeta applies ISO/IEC 30107-3 in evaluating PAD performance and is regarded as one of the most rigorous testing laboratories in the field of biometric anti-spoofing.

Previously, FPT eID had also obtained multiple certifications from BixeLab (Australia), a biometric laboratory authorized by the FIDO Alliance. These include ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 1 and Level 2 for face biometric anti-spoofing technologies, and ISO/IEC 19795-2 for facial comparison technology, which helps mitigate fraud risks, enhance trust in digital identity verification, and safeguard users during financial transactions in the face of increasingly complex scams.

Currently, FPT eID enables instant identity verification anytime, anywhere, with an accuracy rate of over 99%. The solution has recorded more than 100 million successful authentications and is trusted by over 200 leading organizations across finance, banking, securities, and enterprises in Vietnam and internationally. It has also been recognized with prestigious awards such as Top 10 Sao Khuê, the Make in Vietnam Awards, and the Silver Stevie Awards.

As online transactions occur around the clock and fraud techniques grow increasingly sophisticated, the recent enforcement of Decision No. 2345/QĐ-NHNN on biometric authentication underscores the urgent need for financial institutions to strengthen security measures.

In the first half of 2025, despite a decline in reported fraud cases in the financial and banking sector according to the State Bank of Vietnam, the Ministry of Public Security has warned of emerging threats involving facial biometric spoofing. Fraudsters are leveraging AI and deepfake technologies to impersonate faces during eKYC or online transactions, posing a serious security risk for banking and financial systems.
