FPT eID achieves two leading international certifications in biometrics, complying with Circular No. 50/2024/TT-NHNN

FPT eID – the digital identity authentication solution developed by FPT – has simultaneously attained two of the most prestigious international certifications in the field of biometrics: ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2 for anti-spoofing facial recognition technology and ISO/IEC 19795-2 for facial comparison technology. These achievements mark FPT eID’s early compliance with the stringent standards set forth in Circular 50/2024/TT-NHNN (effective from July 1, 2025), positioning the solution to deliver tangible benefits to financial institutions and banks by reducing fraud risks, enhancing the reliability of customer identity verification, and safeguarding users in digital financial transactions amid increasingly sophisticated scams.

These are among the highest legal and technical certifications currently recognized in the global biometrics industry. They are aligned with standards issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and independently evaluated by BixeLab (Australia) – a biometrics laboratory authorized by the FIDO Alliance.

The dual certifications awarded to FPT eID reflect FPT’s proactive and serious preparation in response to upcoming regulatory tightening by the State Bank of Vietnam. Under Circular 50/2024/TT-NHNN, effective from July 1, 2025 – which follows and concretizes Decision 2345/QĐ-NHNN – all banks, credit institutions, and payment intermediaries will be required to implement eKYC systems capable of biometric anti-spoofing (Presentation Attack Detection – PAD), certified by organizations under the FIDO Alliance.

This regulatory tightening stems from a rising wave of sophisticated technology-driven fraud. In Q2/2024 alone, the anti-fraud platform Chongluadao.vn recorded over 31,000 reports of cyberattacks, peaking at nearly 11,500 incidents in June. Methods such as deepfake images, videos, and silicone masks used to deceive facial recognition systems are posing serious challenges to the banking and finance sector. Delays in deploying eKYC solutions that meet these certification standards could expose financial institutions to legal compliance risks, reputational damage, and data security breaches in digital transactions.

Securing these prestigious international certifications was a rigorous process for FPT’s expert team. As required, FPT eID had to detect at least 99% of spoofing attempts to qualify. Even minor errors could have led to a complete reset of the evaluation process. Previously, the solution achieved ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 1 and has now successfully met the more demanding requirements of Level 2 certification.

ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2 Certification – Elevating the eKYC Solution to a New Standard

ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2 assesses the capability to detect and prevent sophisticated spoofing attacks in biometric authentication systems, known as Presentation Attack Detection (PAD). These attacks may involve masks, animated images, or complex fabricated objects. Passing the rigorous test scenarios involving hundreds of simulated attacks conducted by BixeLab demonstrates FPT eID’s exceptional reliability in detecting and effectively eliminating even the most advanced fraudulent behaviors, thereby ensuring the highest standards of biometric security and safety.

ISO/IEC 19795-2 Certification: An International Benchmark for Facial Recognition Accuracy

In addition to ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2, FPT eID has also obtained ISO/IEC 19795-2 certification. This standard evaluates the accuracy of facial comparison technologies in verifying user identity. According to Circular 50/2024/TT-NHNN issued by the State Bank of Vietnam, eKYC solutions used in the banking sector must meet international biometric matching accuracy standards, specifically: a False Reject Rate (FRR) below 5% and a False Accept Rate (FAR) below 0.01%. FPT eID has significantly outperformed these benchmarks, achieving an FRR of 0% and an FAR of only 0.0016%.

Both ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2 and ISO/IEC 19795-2 certifications were granted by BixeLab (Australia), one of only 12 globally recognized independent biometric testing laboratories accredited by the FIDO Alliance and the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
